Surfbort Interview With World Gone Mad

Regardless of forming her band in Brooklyn, New York, Dani Miller was born in San Luis Obispo, which explains the unapologetic southern California sound heard within her hit band “Surfbort”. Starting in 2014, Surfbort has consistently built a fanbase that finds comfort in relatable lyrics and snarky melodies that make you think, "I'm gnarly. Im sexy, Fuck you.” 

Surfbort played the Lodge Room in Highland Park CA with opener Spunk on July 22, 2026. By the grace of some ambiguous entity, World Gone Mad caught Miller standing outside of the venue and asked the 32-year-old musician some questions. 

Max- Your newest album “Reality Star” just dropped in March of this year. The songs seem to have so many different vibes; so many different tones to them. Was there a common theme when you guys were making this album, or what were you feeling? 

Dani- The worlds fucked up and everyone's existing to try and hang together. It's a reaction to the world; and being a dork in society. I don't know. Everyone's a star of their own reality. 

Sean (drums)- That record to me was kind of like a granny knitting quilt. 

Adam (guitar)- It's kind of like sonically all over the place. We just were kind of new to doing it ourselves, so we had a lot of fun. I feel like that's a common theme, is just having a lot of fun.

Dani- We love to joke around. 

Max- Cameos in your music videos are just insane. You guys have Tony hawk, you have Fred Armissen, you have Lizzy Armanto, tell me about how these connections are made, and what are some of your favorite connections you've made.

Dani- I feel like music and skating goes hand in hand. You know, I'm really good at skating. I skated Tony Hawk. I jumped on his back and skated the ramp (laughs). Lizzy (Armanto) is my best friend, and she directed one of our videos (Lot Lizard 93) and Fred's the coolest. Fred's my bud. He just is down to clown and he dressed up as every member of the band in the music video. I think if you just make art- cool shit comes your way. 

Sean- Freds the shit 

Dani- Fred's a punk rocker

Max- Are you familiar with his time when he was drumming when he was younger?

Dani- Oh yeah. And we're going to make a song with him (laughs). If you're listening, get ready to make a song with us.

Max- A song will be made with Fred Armisen? 

Dani- Oh yeah!

Max- Down to the nitty gritty. Jessica's changed. You say, “world Gone Mad” We are World Gone Mad Media. 

Dani- We wrote that song for you. We wrote “Jessica's Changed” for you.

Max- It was destined. Give us a step by step. What does it mean to be a sexy ass bitch in a world gone mad? 

Dani- Sexy ass bitch in a world gone mad? You're nice to people. You're a lover. You're just hot. However you are. If you're depressed in bed, you're still hot and you're helping people who are suffering and yeah, you're just a good person. That's what makes you a sexy ass bitch in a world gone mad. 

Adam- And there are a lot of sexy ass bitches out there. So hopefully it gets you all to collab and mingle. 

Max- All the sexy ass bitches are in this building tonight!

Dani- Oh yeah! Sexy ass bitches are in the lodge room.

Max- What's coming up next for Surfbort? 

Sean- More songs.

Dani- Yeah make another record (laughs) and we love playing with Circle Jerks. Stay tuned for that. Just playing shows and having fun. We're not really trying to take over the world. We're just trying to hang out and make music so yeah. We'll be in Adam's backyard studio. Adams, our really sick producer. Making the hits.

Max- Any secret hints you can give us on the next songs or next albums that are coming out? 

Dani- They’re fucked up. They're really good. They're the best songs we've ever written.

Sean- They will be pain related.

Dani- That was so scary. The albums titled “I love music” and oh! We are going to name our last album. Umm what was it?

 Adam - God smack?

(Laughter)

Dani - No no (Laughing). Yeah we were going to name it “Gods Smack”.

Sean- Live Laugh Larp.

Dani- Yeah “Live Laugh Larp” because everyone is larping. New songs are going to be sick so get ready.
