Jan 31st Riverside’s own, GVLLOW sells out Fullerton's legendary Programmme Skate & Sound. With openers Dance of Days and Funerol. A album debut show for Gvllow’s “Laughing in the Dark” that released on October 31st 25’. After prior post-punk and goth albums his new album is a homage to his punk roots. Gvllow really brings DIY or die to life after recording every instrument on this new album himself!

Akira- How do you feel your music has evolved overtime especially when incorporating and experimenting with different genres?

Gvllow- “I’m becoming more and more comfortable with myself, it’s really like taking the blinders off and not worrying about how it’s going to be perceived by someone else. It’s just about what feels good to me that leads me to evolve over time as an artist”

As mopeds rev away

“Shouts out SoCal Pigs!!!”

Akira- “What tested you most creatively or mentally while making your latest album after making a big genre swap”.

Gvllow- “Kind of the same as the first question but it was really like saying f*ck it, I’m gonna tap into my core roots and start switching up the sound more drastically.”

Akira- “Were you kind of nervous about the switch?”

Gvllow- “No, it was more of a happy anxious feeling because I felt like for the first time I was really tapping into something that felt so authentic to me that I haven’t really done before”.

Gvllow- “Other than that the biggest test was laying down all the instruments, especially the drums. This is my first album where I recorded drums”

Akira- “Yeah, you basically put down all the tracks, did you mix and produce this one yourself as well?”

Gvllow “All of that was done by Cameron Webb, Cameron was like the brains behind the sound and getting it all translated. He recorded, coproduced and mixed it.”

“Shout out Cameron Webb”

Akira- “Last question I got for you. How do you feel about the evolution the rise and fall of punk within the IE or SoCal since you’ve been in the scene since you were a kid?”

Gvllow- “ Yeah, I’ve been apart of the punk rock scene for about 20 years now, for me I love that it’s always evolving. Im noticing with social media nowadays it’s easier to get the word out. It’s not like when I started going to shows all we had was Myspace, that’s about it. So having TikTok and Instagram so many more people can connect. I know there’s people out there that want to gatekeep it and hate on that, I love it.

Akira- “Banking off that, there’s certain crowds that come into punk and ruin certain venues and we kind of lose out on good places or even then theres only so much social media can do, we did just lose chain reaction.”

Gvllow- “Right, but you know what with loss there always comes evolution. And I think that what history has shown is that punk rock is never gonna go anywhere and it’s always evolving and it’s always progressing. There’s always a new and younger crowd and I f*cken love that there is a younger scene out there doing the same sh*it we were doing when we were younger, playing backyards and yuh know DIY.”

Gvllow- “DIY OR DIE!!!”
