To kick off 2026 on February 27th, Tijuana born band “Hong Kong Fuck You” delivered a chaotic fusion of power violence and hardcore that felt less like a show and more like a full-on collision. Fronted by the unhinged presence of Christian Hell and backed by a relentless drummer along with bass, bass & more bass. With opening bands B.U.F.F. and Knuckle Sandwich setting the tone, the crowd was already primed for chaos before HKFY even touched the stage.

For any poor soul stepping in for the first time—voyeur or viewer—you wouldn’t know what to expect from such a band especially with their unique member lineup. One by one, members piled on stage to set up. A trio of bassists with no guitarist in sight. That alone should’ve been a warning. My advice, if you care? Grab some earplugs or prepare to leave with your head buzzing. Hell enters, calm before the storm and sporting a mystery case that once opened, felt like a scene straight out of Pulp Fiction… Maybe that’s where Christain keeps what’s left of his soul but who knows. As their set begins, a switch is flipped. Hell transformed instantly, lunging at the crowd, chugging, spitting, and claiming the front row as his personal war zone.

With much anticipation there’s no amount of bracing yourself wherever you are in HKFY’s crowd. Within seconds, the World Gone Mad crew are flung around the venue, forced to survive an unwavering crowd. Holding my ground, I was front and center and face to face with Hell himself. If I wasn’t being spat at, elbows swung and stage divers launched without warning. A band that call themselves gatekeepers of lyrics, but have a stage presence that says even more by showing Riverside exactly what they’re made of. In turn, the Inland Empire answered with equal force. I walked away with more bruises than usual—some still lingering. Fighting off this crowd while getting footage wasn’t an easy feat. HKFY doesn’t do breaks and neither does their crowd. Yet I survived the chaos. This consistent and suffocating energy receives no complaints though as it’s sure to get everyone pumped and shoving!

HKFY’s origin is just as crazy as their sound. Conceived in Tijuana Mexico, original members Hell and Isidro took a DMT-fueled trip. Pen to paper referencing Hong Kong, an infamous gentleman’s club located in Tijuana’s red-light district surrounded by sex trafficking & dark controversy. What started as a chemically inspired idea became something rooted in retaliation. Hong Kong to their Fuck You was born and its name was and will always be rooted in defiance that’s fuels them today.

My first encounter with HKFY was back in 2022 at a local backyard show in Riverside, back when Hell transitioned from drums to vocals. One thing I can say for sure, is this ensemble's energy never seems to diminish or fade. If anything has changed since then, it’s only that their intensity has sharpened. They evolve, constantly pushing against the limits of a scene already built on breaking rules. HKFY is controlled violence, third-world fighting music with a name that refuses to be ignored. They transform their crowd, turning wallflowers into stage diving crowd killers. Observers become participants. And whether you’re ready or not, once you’re in it, you’re part of the HKFY chaos.
